Seoul, Korea, 27 November 2006 - LG Electronics announced that its innovative and leading-edge design concept for the LG ‘e-book’ – a fuel-cell powered and eco-friendly notebook – was named the ‘red dot: best of the best’ for highest design quality at the red dot award: design concept 2006. This award was on top of a slate of other awards that LG Electronics won, including the ‘Design Team of the Year 2006’; and ‘red dot: best of the best’ awards for its T1 Express Dual notebook and wall-mounted projector (AN110).
The LG ‘e-book’ which won the prestigious best design concept award is an eco-friendly notebook using natural gas, methanol and other liquefied fuel cells. It is an ergonomic notebook which is sleek and slim, and highlights usability and portability. This award-winning notebook features OLED displays on four sides and touch-sensitive controls, and demonstrates LG’s superiority in design, and technological innovation. LG ‘e-book’ is also nominated for the ‘red dot: luminary’ with a chance to win as the most outstanding entry of all submission in the competition.
The awards will be presented at the red dot award: design concept 2006 launch event held on 24 November at the red dot design museum in Singapore. In attendance will be Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, President of the red dot design awards and President of the ICSID(International Council of Societies of Industrial Design), as well as Mr Ken Koo, President, Asia, red dot design awards . The LG ‘e-book’, along with other prize-winning entries will be displayed at the “International Design Concept 2006/2007” exhibition at the red dot design museum.
LG Electronics’ DDM design research institute director, Vice President Shim Jae Jin, explained, “The design concept award presented to LG is an affirmation of creative strengths, and LG being in-tune with the digital age and environment.” He went on to emphasize, “The LG notebook swept the best awards not only in product design but also in the concept category, a firm endorsement of LG as a top design leader.”
Competing for the red dot design concept award were 478 products from 39 nations, and of 72 accredited products, ‘red dot: best of the best’ certification was given to 12.

The competition is divided into three sections - product design, communication design and concept design - which are staged and adjudicated separately. The coveted trophy is the red dot, the international seal of quality for outstanding design.
